Sticking to old tried and tested ways is the mantra of many a sailor, and this isn't an entirely bad thing. But it may mean you miss out on advances which could make your life easier and surprisingly, safer. I admit if you had asked me this question a few years ago you would have got a different answer, but actually that's more to do with the Luddite tendencies most of us sailors seem to have!
